A new art installation is sparking conversation along a popular hike and bike trail in Austin. The installation, entitled “Stone Conversation,” features two large stones with inscriptions that encourage passersby to engage in dialogue with one another.
The artist behind the installation, Karen Hawkins, hopes that the stones will serve as a catalyst for meaningful interactions among trail users. “I wanted to create a space for people to pause, reflect, and connect with one another,” Hawkins said.
The stones are located along the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, near the Lamar Boulevard bridge. Since being installed earlier this month, they have already attracted attention from trail-goers who have stopped to read the inscriptions and contemplate their meaning.
Local residents have praised the installation for adding a new dimension to the trail and creating a sense of unity among visitors. “It’s nice to see something like this that brings people together,” said one trail user.
The “Stone Conversation” installation will remain in place for the foreseeable future, inviting trail users to continue engaging in dialogue and reflection as they enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
